anti-forma [2023]
durational performance
Concept and performance: Federica Dauri
Anti-Forma represents a bold exploration of minimalism within the realm of performance art, drawing upon the influences of Arte Povera and Butoh. Through its meticulous use of ordinary yet versatile material, namely rope, the piece embodies a conscious effort to strip down sculptural elements to their essential forms. This reductionist approach not only highlights the intrinsic qualities of the chosen material but also invites viewers to reconsider their perceptions of space and movement. The deliberate installation of the rope, meticulously outlining a path in space, serves as the focal point of the performance. Here, the performer's adherence to the trajectory of the rope becomes paramount, requiring a profound commitment and precision in execution. This adherence not only demonstrates the physicality of the performance but also underscores the conceptual engagement with the boundaries established by the rope itself. "Anti-Forma" is designed to be presented in a variety of settings, including galleries, museums, and urban spaces, thereby offering a dynamic fusion of physicality and conceptual exploration. Through its deliberate use of minimalist elements and emphasis on the relationship between performer, material, and space, the piece invites viewers to engage with both tangible and intangible boundaries, ultimately challenging conventional notions of form and expression within the realm of contemporary art.
