Kheperer   [2014]
durational performance

Concept & performance: Federica Dauri
Sculpture: Egon Schrama

Kheper is a durational performance in collaboration with sculptor Egon Schrama, merging the realms of sculpture and dance into an immersive performance. The sculpture is composed of two slabs, one made of plexiglass, and the other of iron—each measuring 2 meters in length and 1 meter in width. These slabs are suspended 45 cm apart, creating a confined performance space that is just 45 cm high and 60 cm wide. This narrow gap serves as a canvas upon which Dauri, performs. Inspired by the form and movement of an insect observed under a microscope, Kheperer explores the tension between confinement and metamorphosis. Dauri’s supine movements are a response to the tight spatial constraints, challenging her body to adapt and evolve in ways that embody the microscopic world of insects. Kheperer unfolds organically through fluid, instinctive choreography. The piece seeks to blur the boundaries between humans and animals, allowing Dauri to inhabit a liminal space where both identities coexist. The iron and plexiglass slabs not only confine the body but also frame the act of transformation, turning the performance into a living sculpture that continuously shifts in meaning.
